چکیده

The elastic shape analysis of surfaces has proven useful in several application areas, including medical image analysis, vision, and graphics. This approach is based on defining new mathematical representations of parameterized surfaces, including the square root normal field (SRNF), and then using the L norm to compare their shapes. Past work is based on using the pullback of the L metric to the space of surfaces, performing statistical analysis under this induced Riemannian metric. However, if one can estimate the inverse of the SRNF mapping, even approximately, a very efficient framework results: the surfaces, represented by their SRNFs, can be efficiently analyzed using standard Euclidean tools, and only the final results need be mapped back to the surface space. Here we describe a procedure for inverting SRNF maps of star-shaped surfaces, a special case for which analytic results can be obtained. We test our method via the classification of 34 cases of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), plus controls, in the Detroit Fetal Alcohol and Drug Exposure Cohort study. We obtain state-of-the-art results.

Reconstruction of Inclusions in an Elastic Body

We consider the reconstruction of elastic inclusions embedded inside of a planar region, bounded or unbounded, with isotropic inhomogeneous elastic parameters by measuring displacements and tractions at the boundary. We probe the medium with complex geometrical optics solutions having polynomial-type phase functions. Using these solutions we develop an algorithm to reconstruct the exact shape o...

Amplitude Variation with Offset Inversion Analysis in One of the Western Oilfields of the Persian Gulf

Reservoir characterization has a leading role in the reservoir geophysics and reservoir management. Since the interests of the reservoir geophysics and reservoir managements are the elastic properties and reservoir properties of the subsurface rock for their purposes, a robust method is required for converting seismic data into elastic properties. Accordingly, by employing a rock physics model ...

Elastic Shape Matching of Parameterized Surfaces Using Square Root Normal Fields

In this paper we define a new methodology for shape analysis of parameterized surfaces, where the main issues are: (1) choice of metric for shape comparisons and (2) invariance to reparameterization. We begin by defining a general elastic metric on the space of parameterized surfaces. The main advantages of this metric are twofold. First, it provides a natural interpretation of elastic shape de...

Stability and vibration analyses of tapered columns resting on one or two-parameter elastic foundations

This paper presents a generalized numerical method to evaluate element stiffness matrices needed for the free vibration and stability analyses of non-prismatic columns resting on one- or two-parameter elastic foundations and subjected to variable axial load. For this purpose, power series approximation is used to solve the fourth–order differential equation of non-prismatic columns with v...

Comparison of Lift and Drag Forces for Some Conical Bodies in Supersonic Flow Using Perturbation Techniques

Numerical methods are not always convergent especially in higher velocities when shock waves are involved. A comparison analysis is performed to study the supersonic flow over conical bodies of three different cross sections circular, elliptic and squircle (square with rounded corners) shaped using  Perturbation techniques to find flow variables analytically. In order to find lift and drag forc...
